Dream & Scheme Vocational Discernment practices are for people in all life-stages. We create space for folks who are curious, stuck, growing, aching, struggling to find and follow their sense of call in the midst of climate chaos, late stage capitalism, and cultures of domination that seem inescapable.
Build your toolbox for understanding your current vocation and discerning into the future by engaging in our offerings below. We’d love to work with you and/or your group - let’s discern together!

Standalone Workshops
Suitable for groups of a variety of sizes, these workshops can kindle deeper reflection, connection, and imagination within your group. Workshops can be adapted for different settings, and all include participatory elements to keep folks engaged. We often present virtually to keep costs low, but are happy to discuss joining your group in person.
Foundational Assumptions & Finding Your Own Foundations: This workshop provides an overview of Dream & Scheme’s approach to vocational discernment, exploring the relationship between our foundational beliefs and their impact on how we view discernment, call, and decision-making in our lives. After engaging with Dream & Scheme’s foundational assumptions, participants will be invited to reflect on their own foundational beliefs, and how those beliefs impact their perception of discernment. Interactive Workshop, 120mins.
Discernment Through Attraction & Art: This workshop is an opportunity to reflect on how we relate to our bodies, what listening to our bodies can teach us, and ways we might need or want to disinvest from what we’ve been taught about our bodies by white supremacy, institutional religion, and heteropatriarchy. We’ll wrestle with how racial capitalism wants us to be disembodied cogs in a profit machine, and cautiously or enthusiastically engage the idea that being connected with our bodily sensations can give us good information about what we want. We’ll consider that what feels good or fun or joyful might actually be pretty important for discernment. Interactive art workshop, 90mins.
Discernment Through Imagination & Iteration: In this workshop we’ll engage with iteration and push back against the idea you have to have just one calling. We’ll talk about how white supremacy and capitalism try to limit our imaginations and the joy that can be found in ignoring that limit. Concretely, we’ll lean into imagining our future lives and the practical steps that could build those lives. We’ll wrestle with how the uncertainty of this moment in time might impact our plans (and practice emotional grounding to thrive through uncertainty!). Imagination practice, 90min.
Resilience and Finding the Eddy: This workshop invites participants to find spaces of grounding in a world of busyness and chaos, in order to best be able to move into practices of reflection and discernment. Using the metaphor of an eddy in a river, we’ll discuss resilience as a reflex of moving into soft places. Together we will practice feeling centered in our bodies so that we are ready to discern. Reflection & discernment practice, 60-90 min.
Discernment & Dragons: The world is vast and filled with dragons. You are being called to do something, hearing a voice in the night… maybe it’s clear, maybe it’s just a rumbling of the earth under your feet, maybe it’s just a strange feeling in your stomach that a check-in is due. It’s time to face that particularly challenging dungeon… one called vocational discernment.
This workshop will help participants identify the party that has journeyed with them, that influences their decisions, and that helps develop their sense of purpose and call. Participants will also identify those they’d like to add to their party to best be prepared for the adventure ahead. Interactive Discernment Experience, 90 mins
Small Group Series
Working with a small group of folks, and want to explore discernment together? This could be a great option for you! All of this can be adapted to support what your group needs. Gather a group of friends to work together, invite us to work with your year-long volunteer service cohort, host a small group series at your church… we’re adaptable and excited to meet you and your community where you are to support your exploration.
